Doorbell project: Success!

Having had problems with the doorbell project, I read the 'troubleshooting' section of the book (p78-79).

The simple problem was that i had wired up both xbee-arduino TX/RX ports the same way, so swapping them over on the receiving end was all that needed doing. It says in the book that the main source of problems is incorrect wiring.

Below is a video of the system working. It is connected to two different computers, but will run on batteries Now that i have serial communication working, I will  make my basic chair system wireless. Unfortunately there isnt much online for xbee/arduino serial communication so i will be writing all the code myself. Note that the light is flashing because of the increased delay within the code. Further on in the book are things such as advanced commands and even a power saving 'sleep' mode which would come in useful for installations. I have done a range test to see how far apart the system will work indoors, and it works at least 40 feet apart. It is yet to be tested outside!
